Lucia, born in 1894; Gina, born in 1907; Ester, born in 1893; Gisella, born in 1908; Maria, born in 1908; Mariantonia, born in 1896; Lina, born in 1910: these are some of the women who fought in defense of the Civitaretenga Spring on September 17, 1952.
The Allied bombings had destroyed some aqueducts that brought water to Navelli, but in Civitaretenga "la Fonte" remained active: a place where all the women of the village had always met to wash clothes, to collect water with the typical basin, but above all to meet and talk away, away from the eyes and ears of men.
The decision to divert the course of that water sparked a revolt that everyone in Civita still remembers very well.
On the occasion of the "Festival of Popular Narrations", we responded to the widespread need of those who live in these places in the center of the Navelli Plain (AQ) to tell this story.
